Answers to Common Questions of Young Adults and their Parents

Who is this program for?

This program is for young adults (typically 18–29) who feel stuck, unsure about their future, or want clearer direction in life, school, or work.

What does a coach actually help with?

I help clients gain clarity, build confidence, make decisions, and take practical steps toward school, career, and life goals.

What kinds of topics do you cover?

Career direction, decision-making, motivation, confidence, job applications and interview skills, communication, emotional intelligence, resiliency, healthy relationships, habits and life routines, and building real-world life skills - tons of self-awareness and actionable steps to move clients in the direction they uncover for themselves.

How is this different from therapy?

Coaching is future-focused and action-oriented. We focus on goals, growth, and practical strategies. Coaches do NOT diagnose or treat mental health concerns.

What results can clients expect?

Clients leave with clearer direction, increased confidence, stronger decision-making skills, and practical plans they can follow.

How long is the program?

The 6+6 program runs for 1 year. It's comprised of 6 months of regular meetings to build a solid foundation followed by 6 months of checking in and maintenace.

Are sessions one-on-one?

No.  Each client has 1 x 1:1 session per week (unless more are needed during high stress times), 1 small group session per week, and 1 larger group learning event to attend every couple of weeks.

Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions?

Sessions are all virtual. Sometimes for those who are local I may offer an in-person group event from time to time.

What if my young adult lacks motivation?

That happens. These are the lows that we all have to learn to manage and still show up for the work. We work on building internal motivation, not forcing it by helping them understand what drives them and how to take small, consistent action to move through these lows. Your help may be needed some days and you and I can discuss what this looks like for your situation.

How involved are parents?

Parents can be involved at a high level (progress updates, being supportive of your kiddos process, doing some of the work for yourself), while sessions remain a safe, independent space for the young adult. Your young adult may need help compiling a job applications list, getting to and from interviews, etc. Support, validate, and don't take your kiddo's outbursts personally. Their outbursts are in indicator that they are going through some bigger feelings they don't know what to do with. At the same time, while you co-regulate by remaining calm, you still need to set real boundaries and expectations.

What if my child doesn’t know what career they want?

That’s one of the things this program is designed for. We explore strengths, interests, and real-world options to create clarity.

Do you help with resumes and interviews?

Yes. I provide practical support with resumes, interview preparation, and workplace readiness. Your support will also be needed on your end. We can discuss what this may look like when your young adult reaches that point.

Is this only for students?

Definitely not.  This is for both students and young adults who are working, between jobs, or figuring out their next step.

How quickly will we see progress?

Many clients feel more clarity and confidence within the first few sessions, with deeper progress building over time. This, of course, depends on how often they commit to doing the work and the level of support and patience they experience at home.

How do we get started?

We start with a free consultation to see if the program is a good fit and to discuss goals. Grab a spot through the. "Talk with Jen" button on this page.
